1. Marangu Route Kilimanjaro 80% Summit Success Rates

The Marangu route, also known as the Coca-Cola route, is the oldest, most well established route on Kilimanjaro. One of the easiest route to climb Kilimanjaro. The only route which offers sleeping huts in dormitory style accommodations in lieu of camping. There are 60 bunk beds each at Mandara and Kibo Huts, and 120 bunk beds at Horombo Hut.

2. Northern Circuit Route 95% Summit Success Rates

Only and unique Kilimanjaro route has the highest success rate. The Northern Circuit is the longest route, taking 9 days hiking up to top of Kilimanjaro. Because of its length, its the safest and most successful route up Kilimanjaro with an average summit success rate of over 95%! Northern Circuit Route is the longest route on Kilimanjaro.

A nine day trip initially ascending Lemosho route on the western side of the mountain up onto the Shira Plateau before reaching the Lava Tower, then heading north and circumnavigating the main summit massive in a clockwise direction. It has the highest success rate of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro Route of 95%.

3. Lemosho Route Kilimanjaro 90% Summit Success Rates

The Lemosho route is approximately 70 km/ 42 miles from gate to gate. It is designed for physically fit people with some hiking experience. Lemosho is considered the most beautiful route on Kilimanjaro and grants panoramic vistas on various sides of the mountain. It is our favorite route because it offers a great balance of low traffic, scenic views and a high summit success rate. Thus, Lemosho comes highly recommended. Most of our clients use Lemosho.

Taking 8 day has a particularly good summit success rate, the extra day makes a difference to how you feel and there are three nights sleeping at the same altitude. The 7 Day option is about an 85% to 90% summit success rate and we dont offer anything less because it is just too dangerous to consider climbing Kilimanjaro in 6 days. Lemosho route is considered the most scenic trail on Kilimanjaro, granting panoramic vistas on various sides of the mountain. As one of the newer routes, Lemosho is a superb choice for your climb. It is our preferred route due to its ideal balance of low crowds, beautiful scenery and a high summit success rate.

Due to its longer length profile, summit success rates on the Lemosho route are one of the highest on the mountain. Whilst there are no official statistics, the average success rate across all operators is 90% for the 8 Day trek and an 85% success rate for the 7 day trek

4. Machame Route Kilimanjaro 85% to 95% Summit Success Rates

Machame route, also known as the Whiskey route, is the most popular route on Kilimanjaro because of the tougher challenge.

In contrast to the easier Marangu route, which is known as the Coca Cola route. Machames draw is in its scenic beauty. What is the Machame Route Summit Success Rate? Due to its climb high sleep low mechanism, summit success rates on the Machame route are very high. Whilst there are no official statistics, the average success rate across all operators is 95% for the 7 day trek and a 85% success rate for the 6 day trek. The route can become busy, especially during the high seasons between August and September and January and February.

One benefit of the Machame route is its quick rise to relatively high elevations (~10,000 feet (3,000 m)), and a short ascent to the Lava Tower site (~15,000 feet (4,600 m)) before descending back to Barranco Camp (~12,700 feet (3,900 m)) on the same day.

Umbwe: Shortest and steepest route.

The Machame route is relatively difficult as climbers need to be able to ascend the Barranco Wall on day four and contend with a steep incline up Kibo on summit night. That being said, there are no parts on the route that require any technical climbing skills.

5. Rongai Route Kilimanjaro 95% Summit Success Rates

The total distance is 72 kilometers with the longest day being summit day at 21 kms. A trek to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro on the Rongai route can take anywhere between six to seven days. The main difference between the six-day and seven-day route is an additional acclimatization day at Mwenzi Tarn.

Rongai is a moderately difficult route, and is highly recommended, especially for those with less backpacking experience. Although the scenery is not as varied as the western routes, Rongai makes up for this by passing through true wilderness areas for nearly the entire way. Descent is made via the Marangu route.

Rongai route ascends Mount Kilimanjaro from the north-eastern side of the mountain, along the border between Tanzania and Kenya. The rongai route retains a sense of unspoiled wilderness. The Rongai route is the only route that approaches Kilimanjaro from the north.

6. Shira Route Kilimanjaro 86% Summit Success Rates

The Shira route on Kilimanjaro crosses the entire Shira Plateau from west to east in a pleasant, relatively flat hike. Then the route traverses underneath Kilimanjaros Southern Ice Field on a path known as the Southern Circuit before summiting from Barafu. Descent is made via the Mweka route. Climb Mount Kilimanjaro without wishing to summit, you can hike to the spectacular Shira Plateau. The plateau stretches out over 13 kilometres to the west of Kibo, at an elevation of 3, 962 metres.

7. Umbwe Route Success 70% summit Success Rates

one of the shortest routes to the Southern Glaciers and the Western Breach and its the most challenging route on Mt Kilimanjaro. Approaching from the south, the Umbwe route is a short Adventure & Beyond – Tanzania Safari, steep and direct climb. It is probably the most scenic, non-technical route on Kilimanjaro. Exact trekking distance for the Umbwe Route is 53km or 32 miles. Short, steep and direct route. It is considered to be very difficult and is the most challenging way up Mount Kilimanjaro.
